Lake Cowichan at over 20 miles in length is one of the largest lakes on Vancouver Island,and is 20 miles west of Duncan,and about an hour north of the provincial capital of Victoria. Originally settled in the late 1800,most people made their living by logging the tall straight fir trees. The area really began to grow when the E&N Railway reached area in 1912.
After the second world war, the logging industry boomed, with cities and camps built around the lake to harvest it's forests.Mesachie Lake, Honeymoon Bay,Youbou, and Caycuse all remain as sentinels to the past logging history, and today's tourist and recreational industry.
Lake Cowichan area ,now, is a very popular destination for Residential, and recreational houses and campsites, and is the gateway to the Carmanah Valley, and the West Coast of Vancouver Island.If you haven't been to Lake Cowichan yet, make plans to visit this blossoming area.
