Campbell River has long been known as the "Salmon Fishing Capitol" of Canada, and for good reason. A large part of The West Coasts fishing fleet call this area home, and thousands of sport fishermen come here every year to stay in the many lodges, and tourist accommodations.

Eco-tourism, Canoeing, Kayaking, Scuba Diving, Hiking, Downhill and Nordic Skiing, Hiking, RV-ing and Camping have grown tremendously in popularity, as this is the junction point to many of Vancouver Island's smaller coastal cities, Gold River, Sayward,Tahsis,and points farther north.

Like most areas of the coast, Campbell River's economy was based on the primary industries of forestry and fishing, but has been changing, due to the desire of people to live closer to and enjoy the natural surroundings of smaller cities,that offer a good mix of recreational and business opportunities.
